Assessing the Presence of Macrozooplankton in the Palmer Deep Canyon region of Antarctica using Coordinated Video Footage

For this project, we are looking for an undergraduate volunteer to assist with the processing and analysis of video footage from cameras mounted to oceanographic equipment deployed in the Palmer Deep Canyon region of Antarctica.

Skills you’ll gain by doing this work:

  • Basic Adobe Premier Pro functions

  • Image analysis using ImageJ software

  • Organism aggregation analysis using Echoview software

  • Zooplankton identification skills

  • Familiarity with the morphometric features of common macrozooplankton of the Southern Ocean

  • Possibility to conduct further analysis incorporating water column and/or biological data

  • Data management and collation

  • Production of graphs, tables, and other informative figures

 

What we’re looking for:

  • A reliable student who is able to work independently (the work will be conducted remotely)

  • A student who is hard-working and eager to learn and acquire new skills

  • Someone who can dedicate a minimum of 5 hours/week to the work
